Technical Visits

The following technical visits will take place on 30 and 31 May. Registration is on first come first served basis and is limited to 40 for each visit.

Mumbai Metro One: 30 May 2019 | Half day - Afternoon

Mumbai Metro One is a 11.4 km fully elevated modern mass rapid transport system providing much needed east west connectivity between the central and western suburban rail lines in the city of Mumbai. This metro rail line has been in operation since 2014 and currently it carries 450,000 passengers every day. The entire facility is operated and maintained with latest and advanced world-class technology by the Metro One Operation Pvt Ltd (MOOPL). The Control Room has been designed keeping the best global standards in mind. It is designed to operate the Metro System in the safest manner and to deal with all kinds of emergencies. The exciting technical tour to Mumbai Metro One will be hosted by Metro One Operation Pvt Ltd (MOOPL). The technical tour will start with 15 to 20 minute presentation on construction, operation and maintenance phases, and their latest digital initiatives on fare collection systems (Metro One’s QR code ticketing system is first of its kind in India), followed by visit to Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) Lab, Operational Control Room, Train Simulator and Workshop. This visit is for half a day in the afternoon of 30th May

Coastal Road Project: 30 May 2019 | Half day - Afternoon

The Coastal Road is an under construction 29.2 km segment of the partly built Western Freeway along the western coast line of Mumbai intended to improve mobility between suburbs and the island city. The Coastal Road will be built in two phases. It will have 8 lanes, including 2 lanes dedicated for a bus rapid transit system. The first phase includes construction of 4 interchanges. The project will also comprise the construction of two earthquake-resistant tunnels. Each tunnel will be 3.4 km long and connected with cross tunnels that can be opened up in case of emergency. Out of 90 hectares of reclaimed land, 22% will be used for the construction of roads while the remaining 78% will be used to create amenities for the project. This will include three underground parking lots. Many recreational facilities such as cycling track, jogging track and botanical butterfly garden are also planned as a part of the project. The technical visit to Coastal Road will be hosted by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, the implementing agency of this project. The visit would start with a 5 to 20 minute presentation on planning and construction followed by the site visit to witness and understand the use of world class technology and equipment utilized for the construction. This visit is for half a day in the afternoon of 30th May

Mumbai Nagpur Super Communication Expressway: 31 May 2019 | Full day

Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication Expressway also known as Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 8 lane 701 km long under construction expressway, connecting the cities of Nagpur and Mumbai in Maharashtra state of India. This expressway is designed for speeds up to 150 km/h on plain terrain and up to 100 km/h on the mountainous terrain of the Western Ghats. The expressway will have a total width of 120 m with a central median of 22.5 m will follow the international design standards. An exclusive utility corridor along the expressway is proposed to be constructed for installation OFC cables, gas pipelines, electricity lines, etc. The expressway will run through 10 districts, 26 tehsils, and 390 villages in the state and is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to 8 hours. The project is expected to cost about US $ 6.6 billion and requires the acquisition of 8,603 hectares of land. The technical visit to Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication Expressway will be hosted by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the implementing agency of this project. In this technical visit the delegates will be taken to couple of construction sites of this project, The delegates will be able to witness the use of world class technology and equipment used for the construction of this expressway including tunnelling technology. In view of the construction sites located outside the city, the duration of this visit would be for full day on 31st May.

Navi Mumbai International Airport: 30 May 2019 | Half day - Afternoon

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is an under construction Greenfield international airport being built at Panvel in Maharashtra at a distance of 35 km from the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at Mumbai. The cost of the project is estimated to be US$2.2 billion. The first phase of the airport will be able to handle 10 million passengers per annum. The airport will be expanded to full capacity and will be equipped to handle more than 60 million passengers per annum. The project is being executed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a Special Purpose Entity formed by the GVK group and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) under public private partnership (PPP) on a 'design, build, finance, operate and transfer' (DBFOT) basis. The airport is expected to open in 2020. The technical visit to NMIA will start with a 1-hour detailed presentation of the project which includes the airport master plan, planning for the terminal building and other important airport facilities followed by site visit. In the site visit session, the ongoing works of airport land development, construction of channel for the diversion of river flowing through the site, the sites for resettlement of project affected persons, ongoing works related to enhancement of airport connectivity shall be shown. This visit is for half a day in the afternoon of 30th May.

Colaba – Seepz Underground Metro Rail Line: 30 May 2019 | Half day - Afternoon

Colaba–Bandra-Seepz metro rail line, also referred to as Metro Line 3 of Mumbai Metro, is a part of the metro system for the city of Mumbai which is under construction. After completion, the 33.5 km long line will be the first underground metro line in Mumbai. The cost of the metro line is estimated to be US$ 3.2 billion. The project is being implemented by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). The metro line starts at Cuffe Parade in Colaba and terminates at SEEPZ (Special Electronics Export Processing Zone) in the north-central suburb. There will be 27 stations, one at grade and 26 stations underground. The technical visit to Colaba–Bandra-SEEPZ line will start with a 15-20 minute of presentation on general outline of the project followed by site visit. Tunnel boring operations at the site can be witnessed by the delegates. The salient features of metro stations and the automated systems that are being installed will be explained through a visit to one of the under construction metro stations. This visit is for half a day in the afternoon of 30th May.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: 31 May 2019 | Full day

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, is an under-construction road bridge connecting the island city of Mumbai with Navi Mumbai in main land. It is a 21.8 km long 6-lane freeway grade road bridge, including 16.5 km sea bridge and 5.5 km of viaducts on land on either end of the bridge. The project is estimated to cost US$2.0 billion. When completed, it would be the longest sea bridge in India. The bridge will begin in Sewri in South Mumbai and cross Thane Creek north of Elephanta Island and will terminate at Chirle village, near Nhava Sheva. The road will be linked to Mumbai Pune Expressway in the east, and to the Western Freeway in the west. The sea link will contain a 6 lane highway, which will be 27 meters in width, in addition to two emergency exit lanes, edge strip and crash barrier. Construction of this project began in April 2018, and is scheduled to complete within 4.5 years. The technical trip to MTHL is organised by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the implementing agency of this project. The visit would start with a presentation on general outline of the project followed by visit to the construction site to see the modern equipment in action. In view of the construction sites located outside the city, the duration of this visit would be for full day on 31st May.
